EYFS at Kinson Academy

Our Early Years at Kinson Academy consists of Reception Year. We aim to provide pupils with the foundational knowledge and skills they need to succeed as they progress through their school journey.

Transition forms an essential part of provision, with Stay & Play opportunities, Home Visits, Parent Workshops and ‘All About Me’ home learning. This ensures that pupils feel safe, secure and stimulated throughout their time in Early Years.

Our Early years curriculum plans follow the statutory Early Years framework. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework–2

They also take account of the steps which will have been taken in pre-school or nursery settings which transfer to Kinson Academy helping pupils to develop, build upon and deepen knowledge progressively. We aim to support pupils to know more and remember more. Pupils are supported and challenged to make progress relative to their starting points, across all areas of learning.

Within our Early Years, the curiosity approach is offered, to encourage the children to develop their learning characteristics. It enables a natural curiosity and eagerness to explore and create.  The classroom environment has been created using authentic resources to spark their curiosity.  We are then able to plan and develop children’s knowledge and skills through their own interests.

With a focus on developing pupils’ vocabulary, pupils are encouraged to develop a love of learning through daily singing, learning nursery rhymes, exposure to high quality texts and discussions around books pupils enjoy and the daily interaction and questioning by adults in class.
